An update from Leanne Greenwood, Club Treasurer
Stepping Up to the Role
Taking on the role of Treasurer in January came with a mix of excitement and nerves.
Without a Treasurer, the Club simply can’t function — so stepping forward felt less like a choice and more like a responsibility I couldn’t ignore.
What I didn’t expect was just how much this role would become part of everyday life… to the point where my youngest now jokingly thinks the Club is his nursery!
A Bigger Challenge Than Expected
The role has proven to be more demanding than I first imagined — especially given the current challenges facing the Club.
That said, I’m incredibly lucky to be surrounded by a supportive and proactive Committee.
Working closely with Terry and Gary (our Bar Steward), we’ve been:
- Reviewing and organising the Club’s finances
- Modernising processes
- Improving how we manage day-to-day transactions
We’ve also completed training on the till systems to make sure all payments —like Function Room bookings — are recorded accurately.
Improving How We Work
One of the key steps forward has been setting up a Finance Sub-Committee, allowing us to deal with financial matters quickly and efficiently.
We’ve also introduced a small discretionary fund for minor expenses.
This means we no longer have to wait for full Committee approval on small but urgent fixes—for example, quickly replacing a £3.00 toilet door lock when needed.
Simple changes like this are already making a big difference.
Taking Ownership of the Finances
A large part of the role has involved transitioning all financial responsibilities into my name as Treasurer.
This includes:
- Managing Club accounts
- Ensuring Gaming Duties are handled correctly through our accountants
- Keeping everything compliant and up to date
It’s been a detailed process, but an essential one for stability and transparency.
Beyond the Treasurer Role
My involvement doesn’t stop at the accounts.
Alongside Chrissy, I also volunteer twice a week to help run Cash Bingo nights on Sundays and Wednesdays — something I really enjoy being part of.
Looking Ahead
I’m proud to be part of such a committed and hardworking team.
This role has challenged me in ways I didn’t expect — but it’s also strengthened my connection to the Club and its community.
