Wash.ME Laundromat Now Open at CWMC
There’s something new in the car park at Chatteris Working Men’s Club — and it could make dealing with the weekly wash, bedding and those awkward larger loads considerably easier.
A new Wash.ME automatic laundromat is now installed and fully operational in the CWMC car park, providing convenient self-service washing and drying facilities right here in Chatteris.
Importantly, the Wash.ME laundromat is available for everyone to use — you do not need to be a CWMC member. This is a public facility located at CWMC.
Washing — including the big stuff
The installation includes both 9kg and 20kg washing machines, together with a 20kg dryer.
The larger machine is particularly useful for those things that aren’t always easy to tackle in a domestic washing machine, including duvets, bedding, cushions, curtains, sofa covers and larger family laundry loads.
Detergent is automatically included with the wash, so there is no need to bring your own. Payment can be made at the machine, including contactless payment, and Wash.ME also offers an SMS notification service to let you know when your laundry is nearly ready.
A wash typically takes around 30 minutes, with drying available separately.
Save money, help the environment
There’s an environmental benefit to those larger machines too. Wash.ME uses eco-friendly washing detergent, automatically included with every wash.
And with the 20kg drum able to accommodate considerably more laundry in a single load, larger washes can be combined rather than split across several smaller ones — helping to save money and reduce the energy used.
It makes particularly good sense for those occasional bulky loads which would otherwise require several trips through a smaller domestic machine.
Useful for Chatteris — and useful for CWMC
Bringing the laundromat to the club makes better use of part of the CWMC site while introducing another useful facility for the wider community.
The arrangement provides a modest financial benefit to CWMC too. Alongside the agreement for hosting the laundromat in the car park, the club receives a small percentage from each wash — another modest contribution towards the everyday costs of keeping the club running.
So every wash provides someone locally with a convenient service while, in its own small way, providing a little support for the club as well.
And with the washing machine doing the work, you might just find yourself with half an hour to spare. As for what you could do with that time… well, the club isn’t very far away.
